Catholic Union Update: Celebrating Her Majesty
The Catholic Union’s aim is to contribute in a balanced and respectful way to the dialogue between religion and politics. On Wednesday, September 14th, live from 9 – 10am, James Somerville-Meikle will be sharing with listeners updates on Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral, prayers for King Charles III and our new prime minister, Elizabeth Truss. Listeners will have the opportunity to call and share their thoughts, reflections and questions. It will be rebroadcast at 5pm that same day, again on Saturday at 5pm. The podcast will be available with the other podcasts from the Catholic Union which can be found here.
The Catholic Union of Great Britain is a voluntary association of the Catholic laity in England, Wales and Scotland. Its purpose is to advocate, express and uphold, by all proper and legitimate means, Catholic moral and spiritual principles and interests, and promote a Christian standpoint in public affairs, regardless of political parties and affiliations. It has a special responsibility in those matters where the concern of Catholics requires representations to Parliament, Government Departments and Agencies, and to other public elected or appointed bodies.
James Somerville-Meikle, head of public affairs for the Catholic Union will be updating listeners on key campaigns and legislation in government. James joined the Catholic Union in 2019 as Head of Public Affairs. James also works for a Member of Parliament and before this was responsible for political relations at a rural campaign organisation.
