New Series: Feasts and Seasons

Written by on 14/07/2020

When is St Martha’s day?  What cakes should we eat on the feast of St Mary Magdalene? Why is your Tax Return dated from March to March each year? And who are the saints associated with harvesting, brewing, or Christmas?

If you don’t know the answers to these questions,  you need to listen in to “Feasts and Seasons” presented each week on Radio Maria England by journalist and historian Joanna Bogle.

There is so much to learn about our Christian calendar:  the annual round of seasons and celebrations marking the great events of Christ’s life and the drama of our salvation story. Saints, heroes, recipes, songs, pub signs and nursery rhymes and more – they all link to Britain’s rich Christian heritage. There is so much here to share and to enjoy.

Christianity isn’t just about words: it’s about a way of living, praying, believing and celebrating. And it’s not just about discovering the past: new customs and traditions arise to enrich the calendar as each year passes, and your own family’s traditions are part of all that, too.

Listen in – and make your own contribution. Find out about songs and stories, customs, traditions, recipes and fun!
