The Sabbath Rest

Join us for Derek Williams’ new series The Sabbath Rest!

At the heart of the Torah is the Sabbath, forming one of the commandments, concluding the act of creation, and being the day when Jesus performed many of his miracles. Sadly, modern society has in general stopped observing a day of real rest, and we are encouraged to engage in all sorts of activities without recognising the negative effect on our physical or mental health.

This series of teachings leads the listener through the Bible, looking at the various times God speaks about his Sabbath, how we should observe it, the effects of not observing it, and the fruit of being faithful to God’s call.  Derek also prays for healing during his teachings so that we can be more fully open to God’s grace.

Derek is a Catholic lay evangelist who has been involved in evangelisation for 33 years. He loves teaching the Word of God, together with Magisterial writings, and quotes from Saints. He loves both his Catholic faith and his home country of England for which he prays and preaches for its conversion to the faith of our ancestors. Many years ago, he was giving a mission in Portugal and they gave him the nickname ‘God’s fireman’, because he doesn’t put fires out, he kindles them in the power of Holy Spirit. He is a fire starter! Along with other Catholic lay evangelists, Derek speaks at conferences around the UK and abroad, gives retreats, does regular zoom talks, writes books, etc.

He is married to Lynn (28 years May 2023) and they have four children: Catherine, Michael, Hannah and Samuel. They live in East Barsham, just one mile from the Catholic National Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham.
